POTENTIAL WITHIN

Identity & Confidence

THE CHALLENGE

Too many young people spend years being defined by labels before they ever get the chance to define themselves.

Many young people with disabilities grow up hearing conversations about what they might struggle with long before they hear conversations about what they’re capable of.

Too often society focuses on struggles before strengths.

Supporting needs before promoting potential.

Highlighting obstacles rather than exploring opportunities.

Over time, those messages can shape the way a young person views themselves.

They begin to question their abilities.

Lower their expectations.

Play smaller than they’re capable of.

They hold talent, ambition and potential but no one has encouraged them to express it.

When young people stop believing in what’s possible for themselves, communities lose future leaders, innovators, creators and changemakers.

The Potential Project is here to change that.

Potential already exists. We’re simply helping it grow.

CORE BELIEF
Nobody Gets To Decide Your
Potential

Not society.

Not a diagnosis.

Not a label.

Not even the voice in your own head.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to discover who they are, recognise what they’re capable of and create a future that reflects their potential rather than other people’s assumptions.

That’s the belief behind The Potential Project.

Potential already exists. We’re simply helping it grow.

READY TO EXPLORE WHAT'S POSSIBLE?

Help young people unlock their potential and create a future they're excited about.

The Potential Project exists to help young people with disabilities recognise their strengths, build confidence and believe in what’s possible for their future.

If you’d like to explore how The Potential Project could make an impact in your community, we’d love to start the conversation.

Potential was always there.
Now they can see it too.

FOUNDER STORY

I Know What It Feels Like
To Be Underestimated.

In 1982, doctors told my parents that I would probably never walk or talk and that my quality of life would be low.

The thing is, no one asked me.

I was born with cerebral palsy and have used a wheelchair for most of my life. Growing up, I experienced first-hand what it feels like to be underestimated, defined by limitations and judged by what others believed was possible for me.

But I also discovered something powerful.

A diagnosis is not a destiny.

Over the years I graduated from university, passed my driving test, bought a home, travelled the world, became a wife and mother of four, and built a life that many people once believed would be impossible.

What changed wasn’t my diagnosis; it was what I believed about myself.

I created The Potential Project because too many young people are still being told who they are before they’ve had the chance to discover it for themselves.

I didn’t want to create another programme focused on CV writing, interview skills or surface-level employability training.

Because confidence doesn’t start with a CV.

It starts with self-belief.

The Potential Project helps young people recognise their strengths, understand their value and build the confidence to create futures they’re excited about.

Because when a young person truly believes in their potential, everything changes.

And that’s something nobody gets to decide for them.
